The rapper Akon and his latest crypto endeavour

Akon will ‘Smack That’ NFT on all future music

One of the music world’s most grand visionaries, Akon, has again proven willing to take a chance with new technology as he revealed in an interview with Esquire his latest crypto bet: NFTs.

“My next album is going to be an NFT album…which means I’ll be able to monetize it from the day it drops on every platform that exists,” Akon stated.

This comes as little surprise to those who have followed Akon in the crypto space. His bets in the past have included being the figurehead behind $AKOIN which is a bespoke cryptocurrency developed to tokenize the talent and resources of the African people. The coin is down around 50% in the last 3 months.

“So with the idea of owning a piece of digital art, via an NFT, it allows the creator to benefit more and actually get more of the pie.”

Going forward, Akon will release all new material using the NFT blockchain technology. This includes an upcoming album hinted at during the interview. This new technology will then give him more control over the creative material than previously experienced.

No stranger to the ambitious endeavours

Akon is definitely no stranger to ambitious projects. His vision for what’s called Akon City, is not only grandiose, it’s also attractedcriticism and questions in around transparency.
As $AKOIN was explained to be the selected currency of the city, Akon has left out any specifics and instead referred “the geeks” to figure out how it would all work.

The singer, born in the US to Senegalese parents and raised in Senegal, has been evangelical on the potential of African countries to redevelop and reduce dependency on western countries.
